PAM SCHWARTZ, PICTURED

The Orange County Regional History Center (Facebook | Website) has named Pamela Schwartz as its new executive director. And we are all about it.

Schwartz was already serving as the History Center’s interim executive director following the retirement of Michael Perkins last month; a temporary step up from her former role as the Center’s chief curator.

“I’m honored to lead the next chapter in Orange County Regional History Center’s service to the community. I want to express my gratitude to Orange County and the Historical Society’s Board for placing their faith in me. I am eager to continue the excellent work of this institution alongside its very talented staff to take both the History Center and Historical Society to even greater heights.”

In her role as chief curator, Schwartz directed the creation of the History Center’s awarding-winning traveling exhibitions, from concept to construction. Her team also developed the current landmark exhibition, Yesterday, This Was Home: The Ocoee Massacre of 1920, based on in-depth research by her and other staff members.

In the wake of the Pulse nightclub shooting in 2016, she was the architect of the urgent-response One Orlando Collection Initiative and has become a national authority on historical collecting after community tragedy.

Schwartz has nearly 20 years of museum and consulting experience as a director, curator, and designer, and before joining the Orange County Regional History Center team in 2016, she was serving as the executive director at Boone County Historical Society in Iowa from 2012 to 2016.

We can’t wait to see what she does in the role.
