A new film out of UCF tells the story of the impact of two Orlando high school bands during the 1960s Civil Rights movement.

Marching Forward looks at the story of James “Chief” Wilson who was the band director for over 50 years at Jones High School, which used to be segregated, and the story of an all-white band at Edgewater High School that was led by Delbert Kieffner, and how they came together to perform at the New York World’s Fair in 1964.

The 60-minute documentary was produced by UCF students from the Honors College from 2016 to 2021.
