On Wednesday, March 3, Mayor Dyer and his posse of munici-pals attended the opening of a new bike trail in the Milk District.
The Airport Gap Trail Project now closes the easternmost gap in the almost complete Orlando Bicycle Beltway and features green trail crossings at the intersections, “aviation-themed” bike racks, and the first use of the city’s new trail stamp, which will be featured on select future trails.
Once fully complete in 2024, the Orlando Bicycle Beltway will be an 8.5-mile loop trail that wraps around the Central Business District, and connects to the Orlando Urban Trail, Bumby Path, Cady Way Trail, Lake Underhill Path, and Gertrude’s Walk.

It looks like the entire loop of off street trails is East of I-4. Does it connect College Park or Parramore to the loop in any way other than a couple of on street bike lanes? I see lots of connectors to the north, east and south, but it’s like I-4 is the Great Wall of China, blocking the west part of downtown from the eastern part when it comes to protected off-street trails and paths. Is there going to be any way for those living in the new Packing District to ride off street paths or protected bike lanes all the way across College Park to the Downtown Loop?
