Two local business owners, Wendy Connor from The Abbey (Facebook | Website), and Todd Ulmer of Stardust Lounge (Facebook | Website) and Aku Aku Tiki Lounge (Facebook | Website), have signed on to bring a new bar and restaurant concept to the former Dexter’s location at 808 E. Washington Street [GMap] in Thornton Park.
The new Hawaiian-inspired concept will be named “The 808” after the address and the area code for Honolulu and will feature a “laid-back retro surf vibe with Hawaiian-inspired delicacies suitable for all palettes.”
Ulmer and Connor have teamed up with Daniel “Surfer Dan” Weber from KitchenAF to craft a new menu for the restaurant. The “Surfer Dan” nickname came from Weber’s time spent diving in coastal areas in Mexico, South America, Turks and Caicos, and the Antilles and Caribbean.
The 808 is scheduled to open in early summer for lunch, dinner, and late-night service with brunch options being added at a later date.
That Thornton Park area behind Howard middle school is classic and help people that are purchasing those buildings keep the integrity and keep it vintage.

So 808! I am Hawaiian and a chef, I can not wait to see what authentic Hawaiian culture and cuisine they put together. Our culture is a strong one and we are proud people of our heritage and culinary roots! Will they be having poi?
