Rollins College has commissioned renowned British sculptor, Paul Day (Instagram), to create a special on-campus monument to celebrate the life of Mr. Fred McFeely Rogers.

The sculpture is being created in the artist’s studio near Dijon, in Burgundy, France, and is expected to be unveiled this October in Winter Park.

“We have celebrated our famous alumnus in many ways over the years, including a Mister Rogers walking tour and musical performances of his work. We could not be more pleased to announce today, on World Kindness Day, that we’ll be working with an internationally acclaimed artist in creating a unique, permanent reminder of what Fred Rogers and his philosophy of kindness means to Rollins and to the world.”

– Rollins College President Grant H. Cornwell

Mr. Rogers graduated from Rollins College in 1951.

The new sculpture, named “A Beautiful Day for a Neighbor,” will feature Rogers in his iconic sweater and sneakers, surrounded by children and puppets, standing in a castle. Lyrics from his show’s theme song will be etched in the base of the sculpture as well.

The finished sculpture will be cast in bronze and will stand over 7 feet tall and weigh over 3,000 pounds.
