The City of Orlando will be expanding its Kidz Zone initiative beyond its original neighborhood of Parramore to include two new neighborhoods this year.

The program, which launched in 2006, is modeled on the Harlem Children’s Zone, and aims to reduce juvenile crime, teen pregnancies, child abuse and neglect, and high school drop-out rates among youth by providing programming through a whole network of partner organizations that have deployed a whole gamut of cradle-to-career programs.

The new neighborhoods will now include Holden Heights (which officially launched in 2018), Engelwood, and Mercy Drive.
