Orlando Sentinel‘s recently-formed union, the Orlando Sentinel Guild, will join fellow Tribune Publishing NewsGuild units from across the United States in a nationwide rally on Saturday, May 15.

The rally comes as Tribune shareholders are scheduled to vote on Friday, May 21 on whether to sell its newspapers to Alden Global Capital. Alden has made a name for itself by acquiring newspapers and then instituting mass layoffs and spending cuts to maximize profits before ultimately closing them.

The Guild will be rallying on the Northeast Lawn at Lake Eola Park at 10 a.m. if you’d like to honk your support.

  1. Orlando: We may be a city but we don’t have urban values. We’re making Orlando 1950 again.
No more “Globo-Homo-Shlomo” diversity for me.

  2. Shut em’ down! Journalists are no longer journalists. Nothing more than pundits and far left opinions in print form. Shut it down I say!!!!

  3. Wow, this definitely does not need to happen. These acquisitions oftentimes lead to the demise of awesome publications. I’m friends with so many of the staff members at OS, and they deserve great pay and secure employment.
