“What’s going on with [Winter Park Fish Company] … seems to have closed … All this just on the heels of a large expansion and remodel? What’s up???”

– RON STUDDARD

Winter Park Fish Co. (Facebook | Website) carried out an ambitious construction project this spring that added more indoor seating options to the popular restaurant located at 761 Orange Avenue [GMap].

NOTICE AFFIXED THE OUTSIDE OF THE RESTAURANT

According to the City of Winter Park, the restaurant has been closed and marked with a Notice of Violation, for failing to attain the proper permits before building the new enclosed addition. A Stop Work Order was issued on April 20, 2021, that required the owners to obtain a permit for the construction or to remove the addition within 30 days of receipt of the notice.

According to the Notice of Violation, a variance was granted on April 16 to allow the addition of 22 seats to the restaurant, provided they leased six additional parking spaces for evening use. The approval condition required a five-year lease for the spaces on an adjacent lot for night and weekend use due to the added seats in the dining room. A building permit was also not obtained for the construction.

If not resolved within 30 days, they will be fined by the Code Compliance Board until they come into compliance.

We have reached out to the owners for a statement/update but had not received a response at the time of this post.

  1. My boyfriend was working at winter park fish company when one day the servers came into work to find the doors closed. No one was informed about what had happened and we’re only advised to apply for unemployment. Simply ridiculous.

  2. I worked for this company as management for years before and shortly after new ownership. The new owners and greedy, sexist and misogynistic which does not align with the prior ownership’s values which were community based and family oriented. It is a shame they turned it into this.
