The City of Orlando is constructing a new mid-block crosswalk on Parramore Avenue, at Z.L. Riley Park, located at 619 S. Parramore Avenue [GMap].

The new crosswalk will feature a decorative, textured, red brick pattern designed to increase visibility and the project will also include curb-side concrete islands to shorten the crossing distance while improving pedestrian sightlines, speed tables to reduce speeds at the approaches of the crosswalk, and new signage and pavement markings.

The project construction started on Thursday, May 20, and is expected to be completed by Friday, June 4.

Parramore Avenue will not be closed during construction, but traffic will be flagged around the work area.

Z.L. Riley Park was created in honor of Mr. Zellie L. Riley, a prominent Parramore businessman who founded the Negro Chamber of Commerce in the 1950’s. The nearby Checker Park is still under construction and closed to the public due to I-4 Ultimate-related work.
