Orlando Mayor Buddy Dyer and District 6 City Commissioner Bakari F. Burns hosted a community tree planting last week to celebrate the grand reopening of Grand Avenue Park.
The park renovation, through a partnership with the National Recreation and Park Association’s Parks Build Community program, added multiple playgrounds, fitness equipment, lighting, drinking fountains, and other park equipment to the nine-acre park.
In addition to the park, the City of Orlando is also carrying out an ambitious redevelopment of the historic Grand Avenue Elementary School into a neighborhood center that will feature a full-size gymnasium and be the new location for an expanded Orlando Pottery Studio.
These improvements will also include more youth recreation and sports programs, an expanded Holden Heights Kidz Zone, and after-school and summer programs.
Grand Avenue Park is located at 700 Grand Street [GMap] in Holden Heights.
