Local organizations are seemingly playing a game of hot potato with a beloved Winter Park event series.

The Winter Park Institute (Website) was acquired by Winter Park Publishing Company in July 2020 following an announcement that Rollins College was not interested in continuing to run it during the early stages of the COVID-19 pandemic. The series was founded in 2008 to feature world-renowned scholars in a public forum, including Star Trek‘s George Takei, Beyonce of Urbanism Candy Chang, and National Geographic Fellow, Joel Sartore, and was rooted in Rollins College’s tenents of furthering humanities and liberal arts.

Winter Park Publishing Company’s CEO recently announced that they would be transferring ownership of the Institute to Randy Robertson, effective July 1, 2021. Robertson is the founding director of GladdeningLight (Website), a faith-based non-profit in Winter Park with a mission to “… explore transcendent elements of art through hosted conferences, exhibits, and public performance, cloistered retreat, and pilgrimage.”

Robertson has been appointed as the new full-time director of the institute, and he announced in a prepared statement that he looks forward to announcing new WPI event programming for the spring of 2022 .
