Local playwright/director Donald Rupe’s fledgling non-profit Renaissance Theatre Company (Website) has secured a new home in Ivanhoe Village in a warehouse that most recently was used as rehearsal space for Orlando Ballet.
Local philanthropist Chris Kampmeier, who was an early member of the engineering team that built Square, is purchasing a vacant warehouse at 415 E. Princeton Street [GMap] for the organization to use as a new theater. The 15,468 SF building will house a performance venue with 200 seats, a lobby/bar space, a rehearsal space for smaller performances or rehearsals, storage areas, and dressing rooms.
Upcoming events include a fundraising event on September 10 and 11 with proceeds benefitting future programming, construction, and theatre equipment and Nosferatu, which is being billed as a “one-of-a-kind theatrical horror event,” which will be the first performance in the new building, scheduled for select dates in October.
The purchase of the building is set to close on September 7 and is being represented by Maria Blanchard and Patrick James of Olde Town Brokers.
Note: The Rennaissance will be located just across the street from where Theatre Downtown used to operate. It joins an area already occupied by arts and culture venues like Orlando Shakes, Orlando Repertory Theatre, Orlando Fringe, and Orlando Ballet.
