A sudden fire that broke out last night around 10:27 p.m. at the Pet Alliance of Greater Orlando (Website) on Conroy Road resulted in the tragic death of a number of shelter animals.
A fire that is believed to have started in the front of the building, kept rescue crews away from rescuing roughly 20-30 cats that were trapped near the source. Rescue workers were able to remove all of the dogs from the back of the building before the fire spread.
All of the rescued animals will be relocated to the Pet Alliance’s Sanford location though roughly half of them are currently being housed in foster families.
The Pet Alliance made news last week when it was announced that the organization would be temporarily closing its clinic services at the Conroy Road location by September 17. The decision was made when the director of the Alliance, Steve Bardy, was faced with having to hire a new veterinarian, which is apparently very difficult at the moment as the nation is experiencing a veterinarian shortage.
The Alliance was still providing shelter services and pet adoptions from this location.
