We told you HERE in October 2017 and HERE in October 2020 that the City of Orlando was inching ever closer to starting construction of a new projection park in the Downtown Business District, and it appears, that we have another update one year later – the park is expected to be open by spring 2022.
The new park will be named Art² and will be built on the southwestern corner of Orange Avenue and Robinson Street, on property that is being donated to the City by Dr Phillips Charities – the same organization that is building The Packing District on OBT and Princeton.
The project was awarded to audio/visual company Ascend Studios (Facebook | Website) via a bid process and will incorporate a two-story structure built with shipping containers that will house a coffee/gift shop and a special event venue on the second floor.
Other notable features include hammocks, large-scale video boards, and space for two food trucks; one of which will be used for six-month residencies and the other will be rotated on a more regular basis.
This is lame. A homeless hang out at best and Orlando’s violent downtown area needs more options than loud music and drinking alcohol spots.
Southwestern corner? Isn’t there a newer residential building on that corner?
