Dedicated public servant Frank Billingsley, who has served the City of Orlando for over 30 years, has announced that he will retire this month.

Currently serving as the city’s first Director of Placemaking and Competitiveness, Billingsley has worked with the Downtown Real Estate Resource Center, the Director of Permitting Services, the Downtown Development Board, the Community Redevelopment Agency, and as the Chief of Staff for over 10 years for Mayor Dyer.

Billingsley is the third highest-paid employee at City Hall and I had the pleasure of interviewing him for a bonus episode of “Bungalower and The Bus” when he took on his new role in early 2020.

The City of Orlando will host a special farewell party for Billingsley on Monday, November 8, at 5:30 p.m. at The Abbey for all who would like to attend.

A spokesperson for the City of Orlando told Bungalower that they anticipate filling the role of Director of Placemaking and Competitiveness in the future, but there is no timeline set for when that could happen.

  1. I am proud to have worked as Frank’s intern at the Downtown Real Estate Resource Center c1994, as a UCF Marketing major. My job was to walk the streets of downtown to build and maintain spreadsheets of available space so he could promote them to prospective businesses. Love hearing his voice again in this interview, my best wishes to Frank as he celebrates his retirement. Well deserved, boss!
