The Orlando Economic Partnership’s award-winning Leadership Orlando program has just announced the launch of a new program to help grow a talent pipeline of Black leaders for local nonprofit boards in the Orlando region.
According to a release from The Partnership, the Black Boardroom Leadership Institute (Website) is meant to address a “significant gap amongst Orlando’s nonprofit board of directors” and states that only 11 percent of local nonprofit boards feature Black leaders.
“The Black Boardroom Leadership Institute is a wonderful example of nonprofits dedicated to creating cultures of belonging and meaningful diversity, equity, and inclusion.The institute is going to open doors of opportunity to those historically marginalized from power into positions of decision-making leadership and positively transform Central Florida’s nonprofit ecosystem.”

The program will feature two training tracks, one for current nonprofit leadership looking to increase board diversification and culture change and another track for fostering leadership and skills for Black community leaders that will help with future board placement.
The program was made possible with an investment from an anonymous fundholder at the Central Florida Foundation and is set to pilot between February and November 2022.
