1/28/22 UPDATE: FDEP tested the water at the canal connecting Lake Rowena to Lake Formosa and found that there were still potentially unsafe levels of toxins present.

The City of Orlando Stormwater staff detected unsafe levels of toxins in both Lake Rowena, Lake Formosa, and Lake Emerald in May 2021 and closed the lakes to public use.

Those Lake Alerts have since been extended following a recent sampling that shared that there is still a trace amount of toxins in the water and those findings were confirmed by the Florida Department of Environmental Protection – whose findings also shared that those toxins were not present on the opposite side of the lake near Leu Gardens.

The lake is scheduled for another round of testing in late February. The City of Orlando advises that all public interactions with the lakes cease until further notice.
