Orange County Government released a statement earlier in the day that Orange County Mayor Jerry L. Demings would be working from home this week after testing positive for COVID-19.

The mayor is fully vaccinated and boosted and is reportedly experiencing mild symptoms from the virus after testing positive Tuesday evening. He will work on county business through the week and participate in meetings from his home and will return to the office when it is safe to do so, as per CDC protocols.

As of Tuesday, January 11, 2022, the Florida Department of Health is reporting that Orange County’s 14-day rolling positivity rate is currently 40.79 percent, which the CDC has labeled as a high rate of community transmission. 74 percent of eligible residents have received at least one dose of the vaccine.
