EDIT: Marie Mercado is the co-owner of Greenery Creamery and shared this statement in response to our write-up, “It’s not just me behind this project! I’m a co-owner and it’s the magic of the whole team that is bringing this project to life.”

Marie Mercado, the genius behind hit ice cream shop, Greenery Creamery (Facebook | Website), is opening a new Filipino dessert shop in the Mills 50 District.

Mercado confirmed with Bungalower via email that she will be opening a sister concept to Greenery Creamery called, Sampaguita (Instagram | Website) which will serve her take on Filipino desserts using flavors like ube, mango, pandan, and jackfruit, in both vegan and dairy options.

Sampaguita, or Jasminum sambac, is a type of jasmine and is the national flower of the Philippines, and symbolizes purity, simplicity, and strength.

The concept started as a pop-up and will continue with periodic pop-up events in the new space up until they open the new location by late summer/early autumn, so they can test new recipes like the “halo halo” funnel cake shown below.

Sampaguita will be located next to Mamak Asian Street Food at 1233 E. Colonial Drive [GMap], right next to where the new Haan Coffee Roasters, that we told you about HERE last week.
