Longtime downtown nightclub, Barbarella (Facebook | Website), formerly known as Independent Bar, has just announced that it will be leaving downtown Orlando by the end of February.

Last Friday, Barbarella announced via its social media pages that it would be abandoning its longtime home at 70 N. Orange Avenue [GMap], where they’ve been playing 80’s New Wave music since 1984, to a new home that is, ” a short 13-minute drive from [their] present location.”

We’ve reached out to Barbarella management for more information behind the address change but had not heard back at the time of this post. An exact closing date has not been made public.

  1. Downtown’s best dance club isn’t downtown anymore. It’s located near the Cannery apartments in the Packing District. Mix and mingle to the best alternative sounds of the 80s-90s, spun by DJ Kimball and friends. Enjoy free parking and admission (21 & up) and drink specials until 10pm at Barbarella, now at 4141 John Young Pkwy, Suite 3 | @barbarella

  2. I am very happy that John Gardner is moving. His establishment is and never has been maintained by an licensed agency. I know because Mickey Gannett is not a licensed plumber, or licensed in any other field, and the owner allowed for his establishment to be knowingly unsafe to allow customers to go in. This is outrageous and John Gardner is evading a case from the DOJ/FBI since his establishment is and has been named in a Civil lawsuit. He discriminates customers, such as myself from ever entering his establishment due to an illegal investigation that has been reported to the FBI/DOJ and is ongoing. I have a case number in regards to the Barbarella/Independent Bar. JOHN GARDNER IS THE WORST OWNER OF A NIGHTCLUB!!!!!!!!!!!
