The City of Winter Park recently posted to its Facebook page that its popular lakefront park, Dinky Dock, had been closed to swimming.

The reason given for the closure was “elevated bacterial levels” in Lake Virginia, which is a regular occurrence during the warmer months. Warmer freshwater in the summer can increase the risk of bacterial or amoebic infections. The City of Winter Park will continue to monitor water quality in the coming weeks and will update the public when they can return to swimming in the lake.

Until then, all water contact activities should cease until further notice, though from first glance this afternoon, that wasn’t really stopping anyone from enjoying the sand or launching their paddleboards.

Fort Maitland Park is currently closed for the next few months as it undergoes reconstruction and boat ramp activity at Dinky Dock is expected to increase dramatically in the interim.
