The local arts and theater community has rallied together following the death of three major arts supporters and launched a new scholarship program for local creatives.

In just a couple of years, Orlando lost Sam, Marcy, and Steve Singhaus. The latter of whom were married and were known for hosting countless pool parties for New Year’s Eve, the Oscars, and following/during Orlando Fringe. Marcy was an award-winning costume designer who created looks for the likes of RuPaul’s Drag Race alums Ginger Minj and Tyra Sanchez, and the beloved Sam Singhaus, (Steve’s brother), graced countless stages, bartops, and fundraisers as his alter-ego, Miss Sammy, and even performed on Broadway in the original cast of “La Cage aux Folles.”

Following their deaths, their friends and family have gathered together to launch the new Singhaus Family Scholarship (Facebook | Website), which provides financial assistance to “elevate young talent in their pursuit of a career in theatre, performance, technical, creative, and costume design.” The scholarship is designed specifically to support members of the Central Florida LGBTQ+ community and their allies as they pursue formal education as well as those who may just need a little assistance related to their craft, like “purchasing a new sewing machine, vocal coaching, dance training, etc.,” according to the website.

Grants are currently capped at $1,000. Applicants can click HERE for more information or to apply. Applications received before June 14th will e awarded by July 22nd. All funds will be coordinated through The Center.
