The Bellhop (Instagram) has announced that it will be soft-opening on Friday, May 13, at 8 p.m.
The fancy new bar/coffee shop was built out in the former Subway storefront on the corner of Wall Street and Orange Avenue at 37 N. Orange Avenue [GMap], on the bottom floor of the historic Angebilt Hotel.
Bellhop will be a coffee bar by day and an elevated cocktail lounge by night, though during the soft opening phase over the next couple of weeks they will be open for bar hours only. A dress code of “no sandals, no shorts” will be in effect as of this Friday. The owner, Ricky Galicia, told Bungalower that he put in a dress code because he wanted the guests to look and feel as special as the interior of the new venue.
The bar will specialize in artisan craft cocktails and they are even working with the Ice Doctor (Website) from Gainesville for custom, hand-cut ice for their drinks. A patio will be added on the Wall Street side of the building in the coming months as well, and it will be fenced and cordoned off from the plaza and accessible to Bellhop patrons only.
Galicia hired Kim Price and Suzanne Szak of Kap Studio Designs (Instagram | Website), both of whom worked previously at Walt Disney Imagineering before striking out with their own business.
The first day of business on Friday, May 13th will feature a night of live DJ performances and drink specials. They will operate through the weekend with a special all-day brunch service with bottomless mimosas, close Monday to regroup and reopen on Tuesday. A grand opening is tentatively scheduled for some time in the next two weeks, when they will launch happy hours from 5-8 p.m. and coffee programming will begin.
