Orlando residents are invited to join in celebrating Philippines Independence Day on June 11th and 12th from 4-8 p.m. at East End Market, for the Filipino Freedom Fest.

Independence Day, which is generally observed on June 12th, is an annual national holiday that commemorates the Philippine Declaration of Independence from Spain on June 12, 1898. Filipino Freedom Fest will feature live music and performances, artists, apparel and plant vendors, kid crafting activities, and food trucks – all run by local Filipino creators and community members.

The event is being spearheaded by the folks at Kaya (Instagram), a new Filipino restaurant opening soon in the former Dandelion Communitea Cafe space in Mills 50.

Popular Filipino/Hawaiian food truck, Over Rice (Instagram | Website) will be in attendance and celebrating the holiday with a special “Kamayan To Go” offer for groups of two, that are pick-up only at East End Market. Hopeful diners need to DM the truck on its social media channels to secure a menu and prices and all orders must be made by Thursday, June 9. Over Rice owner, Joel Paoner, recently made an announcement recently that he had signed a lease for a new brick-and-mortar location in Orlando, in an undisclosed location. We hope to share more on that story soon.

The Filipino Freedom Fest is free to attend and family-friendly.
