We told you HERE in August 2021 that Lewis Lin, the owner of Susuru (Instagram) and Jade Sushi and New Asian (Instagram), would be opening a new restaurant on East Colonial sometime in the winter of 2021.

Due to some unscheduled permitting conflicts and construction delays, that opening was obviously delayed but the time has come and Susuru Juju is currently scheduled to soft-open on July 17th with a six-seat chef’s table kappo experience for the first few weeks of operations before adding table service sometime in August following a grand opening.

The term kappo comes from the traditional method of Japanese cooking by cutting, boiling, stewing, and frying, with Chef Lin offering a unique combination of more formal omakase with casual izakaya flair with a variety of Japanese-inspired dishes, including tasty wood-fired creations.

We were lucky enough to be invited to a media event earlier this week and you can get an early look at the food and interior of the restaurant by watching the Instagram video below. During the event, Chef Lin shared that he would not e pursuing his previously announced food stall concept,  Susuru Yatai, in the still under-construction Church Street Food Hall due to its prolonged construction timeline.

Susuru Juju is located in a former Pizza Hut building at 700 Maguire Boulevard [GMap] close to Kabooki Sushi and Fashion Square Mall.
