The team at Harry P. Leu Gardens (Website) has just shared with Bungalower that they will be closed to the public for the foreseeable future as they deal with storm damage on the 50-acre property following Hurricane Ian.
“After assessing the aftermath of Hurricane Ian, Harry P. Leu Gardens sustained a loss of some trees and plants. Fortunately, there was no structural damage to any buildings or structures. Private events, classes, and weddings will proceed as scheduled. For the safety of our guests, the gardens will remain closed for the time being while clean-up continues. A reopening date has not been set.”
– ALLEN JOHNSON, CHIEF VENUES OFFICER, ORLANDO VENUES
The gardens sustained damage to plants and lost a number of trees during the storm. Staff and volunteers are already hard at work clearing debris and reopening the pathways so they can try to open in the next week or so, though an exact opening date has not been set.
The gardens lost a number of mature trees in 2017 to Hurricane Irma, which also damaged the historic Leu House museum – which has since been repaired.
