Former WFTV anchor, Nancy Alvarez, will be joining the team at WESH 2 in January 2023.

Alvarez, who has over 20 years of newsroom experience, has signed on for the noon-4 p.m. slot and will be working on special projects and Spanish language broadcasts for WESH 2 sister station, Estrella TV Orlando.

Alvarez left WFTV in November 2021 when she stepped into the role of Senior Vice President of Community Relations and Equity Impact at Heart of Florida United Way. At the time, Alvarez shared that she was leaving WFTV in part because of the COVID-19 pandemic and wanting to be more involved with the Central Florida community as they struggled with affordable housing issues, public health concerns, and more.

Most newsrooms have clauses in their contracts that restrict how quickly an anchor can leave and work for another company, though most of them restrict on-air personalities from working for other stations for about a year after leaving.
