The Orange County Public Art Review Board has announced the selection of a new artwork for the new 37-acre Orange County Fire Rescue Training Facility in east Orange County that is currently under construction.

The Board chose Carlos Azuaje of Altamonte Springs, Florida, as the new featured artist for the Orange County Fire Rescue Training Center out of 165 entries.  Azuaje’s submission called for the erection of a landmark 15-foot-tall Axe Firefighter and Flame sculpture that features an axe blade embedded in a large concrete foundation, resembling a flame from the front, with the cutout of the shape of a firefighter in the blade on the side, as depicted above.

The sculpture is expected to be installed by August 2024.
