The XFL has just announced the release of a new nine-part docuseries in partnership with Walt Disney and ESPN that chronicles the creation of the new league and the stories of its players.

Player 54: Chasing the XFL Dream will debut on Thursday, February 16 at 5 p.m. on ESPN2 and then ABC on Saturday, February 18 at 2 p.m. ahead of the opening game between the Vegas Vipers and Arlington Renegades. The episodes will be available to stream on ESPN+ each week after they air live on ESPN2.

“The opportunity to use our partnership with Disney and ESPN to showcase these dynamic stories and demonstrate the XFL’s potential is a pivotal aspect of our mission. ‘Player 54’ is the culmination of many of the things that make the XFL special, but, most importantly, it focuses on our players and coaches – the soul and heartbeat of our League. Since the beginning, we’ve been committed to elevating these players, providing them with a platform to share their stories, cultivate their individual brands, and establish themselves as professional athletes. This docuseries is a powerful tool in telling these athletes narratives, connecting with our fans, and building a ‘League of Tomorrow’.”

– DANY GARCIA, CHAIRWOMAN/OWNER, XFL

The series is directed by Peter Berg, who directed Hancock (2008) and Very Bad Things (1998).

Orlando’s new hometown XFL team, the Orlando Guardians, is scheduled to play their first home game on February 26 at Camping World Stadium against the San Antonio Brahmas.
