We often get photographs and tips from our Bungalower readers of things that are happening around town, so we have started featuring them on the site in a series called “Eyes on the Street,” in honor of our favorite urbanist Jane Jacobs.

Hello, don’t know if you heard but the Guitar Factory in college park on edgewater right by linger is closing. They’ve been in the same spot for 30 years as Orlando’s go to guitar luthiers, they’re set to close this month. Thought it was worth noting, definitely sad to see all these mainstays close down at the same time.

Iconic (at least for musicians) College Park business, Guitar Factory (Facebook | Website), has closed.

The shop, run by Billy Fels and Doug Montgomery, both Edgewater High School alums, opened in 1987 at 2816 Edgewater Drive [GMap]. The shop specialized in hand-crafted guitars and repair and was a touchstone for local musicians who needed a quick, reliable fix or if they wanted something extra special for their gigs, like their signature Orange Blossom acoustic guitar, made on-site.

You can catch an interview with the shop owners below via The Patrick Carr Show.

The shop closed in early January 2023. A new tenant is rumored to have already signed on for the space, but we were unable to confirm their identity by the time of this post.
