The Houston Roughnecks clobbered the Orlando Guardians at our first game of the inaugural season in Texas last Saturday.

Houston beat Orlando, 33-12, at the season opener at TDECO Stadium. The Guardians opened the scoring with a 27-yard touchdown thrown by quarterback Paxton Lynch, which was answered by a touchdown by Houston before the end of the first quarter.

The Roughnecks added 15 points in the second quarter and 21 straight after Orlando took a 6-0 lead. Silvers connected with Deontay Burnett for a 48-yard touchdown and Max Borghi scored on a 27-yard run before a 33-yard field goal extended the Roughnecks’ lead to 21-6 going into halftime.

The Roughnecks made it 24 straight points with another 33-yard field goal at the beginning of the fourth quarter. The Guardians looked to mount a comeback. With 6:40 left in the game, Quinten Dormady fired a 51-yard touchdown pass to Andrew Jamiel to cut Orlando’s deficit to 24-12. Houston added another touchdown and a field goal before the end of the game.

The Guardians are scheduled to play their first home game on February 26 at Camping World Stadium.
