This is our latest rundown of the top ten things you need to know this week, in Orlando’s downtown “bungalow neighborhoods.”
Click HERE to listen to Episode 321 of “Bungalower and The Bus” on Real Radio 104.1, which was recorded on the side of Orange Blossom Trail at St. Vic’s Smoke Shack – arguably the smallest barbecue kitchen in Orlando but with the biggest heart.
TOP TEN HEADLINES
- Contentious onePULSE Foundation figurehead, Barbara Poma, is no longer with the organization. The reason for the departure is said to be mutual and drama-free and is meant to make the sale of the property from Poma to the foundation a bit less sketchy.
- Orlando Magic was eliminated from postseason contention for the third consecutive season, following a 117-113 loss to the Cleveland Cavaliers last Tuesday.
- The sun has set on a bodega in South Eola before it ever really managed to open. Sunset Bodega has announced that they will not be opening downtown and the owners are pointing their fingers at City Hall saying officials don’t want them to succeed while the mayor’s office is saying they never pulled any permits.
- UCF has banned TikTok on university-owned devices and networks, citing security concerns.
- Michelin added eight more restaurants to its Orlando guide because they were paid to release a new guide every year for three years. So while it’s exciting, for what they were paid, we think they could have folded in a couple more restaurants to round the number to 10.
- Happy April, Orlando! We may not partake in April Fool’s jokes (because y’all get really mad when you think you’re being tricked) but that doesn’t stop us from enjoying other people’s shenanigans. Check out this roundup of local April Fools Day jokes and tell us which was your favorite.
- Mayor Dyer will host his annual State of the City address on May 24 at Harriett’s Orlando Ballet Centre in Ivanhoe Village. We’re betting the speech will include the words “homelessness,” “downtown neighborhood,” “bar ordinances,” “reduction in crime,” and “tacos.” Though the last word is probably just because we’re hungry.
- Speaking of hungry, Publix just launched a new Nashville hot chicken sandwich.
