Following the recent departure/glow-up of French-Vietnamese pop-up Camille (Instagram Website) which is opening a new brick-and-mortar in nearby Baldwin Park, East End Market has just announced a new pop-up concept by Chef DJ Tangalin which will be moving into the second-floor Neighbor’s kitchen this June.

Danilo’s Pasta and Noodle Bar (Instagram) will be moving into the kitchen sometime next month, led by an in-house incubator kitchen, Domu Lab, which is owned and operated by Sonny Nguyen and James Beard nominee Johnny Tung.

The new concept is named after Tangalin’s father, Danilo Sr., and his son Danilo III. It will feature a selection of dishes celebrating Italian and Asian culinary traditions ranging from classic Italian pasta dishes with a twist to innovative noodle creations influenced by Asia.  According to a press release, that includes dishes like Filipino Surf n’ Turf Pancit, and Wagyu Bolognese.

Chef Dj Tangalin was born and raised in the Philippines and he honed his culinary skills at the Academy of Culinary Arts in New Jersey, where he graduated with honors and won the student Iron Chef competition. He gained experience as a sous chef at Jay’s on Third in San Diego, and later worked alongside notable chefs Eric Ripert and Jennifer Carroll.

More recently, Tangalin did a stint at Ava Mediterranean, which received a Michelin nod and was recognized as one of the best new restaurants in Orlando by EATER earlier this year. Tangalin currently works with Chef Lordfer Lalicon at Kaya, and consults for local Korean fine-dining restaurant, Doshi, both of which also received nods in the 2023 Michelin Guide.

Danilo’s will be open for dinner during the week and lunch on the weekends and will offer guests the option to dine in or takeout. A family-style prix-fixe menu will also be available at the 8-seat counter.

Danilo’s Pasta and Noodle Bar at East End Market is slated to open its doors in June 2023.
