The Grand Bohemian marked a five-year partnership with Orlando Kidz Zones’ program Black Bee Honey last week by adding some new items to their menu.
Black Bee Honey (Website) is a youth entrepreneur program where local students earn both business and beekeeping skills by bottling and selling honey at local markets. The program exposes the students to the fundamentals of beekeeping via two hives which are kept at Firestation 1 and 2.
Those two hives have resulted in the harvesting of 60 pounds of honey through the years, so the bulk of the honey (98%) is purchased wholesale and repackaged with their branding. The program gets the honey from D&J Apiary and Dadant Beekeeping Supplies, via Jerry’s Bee Farm in Altoona, Florida.
The honey they supply to The Grand Bohemian is being used in new summer menu items like the new Summer Watermelon Salad, Goat Cheese Croquettes, Pork Belly Sliders, and a Bees Knees Signature Cocktail. Check out photos of the food below.
