A developer has filed paperwork with the City of Orlando to suss out the viability of a new Asian food hall project in the current home of the Post Office at 611 N. Mills Avenue [GMap].
We told you HERE in August 2017 that a pair of doctors had purchased the property for future development. At the time, the Post Office’s lease was set to run out in 2020, at which point, they would consider opportunities to redevelop the plot. That lease was extended an extra five years due to the pandemic.
The project, which is expected to go before the Municipal Planning Board this September, is asking to replace the current building with a 9,000 SF food hall along with a request for fewer parking spaces than required and permission to sell alcohol within 1,000 feet of Hillcrest Elementary School, which is just across Mills Avenue.
This is in the very early stages of permissions with the City of Orlando.
Johnson’s Towing should buy out the old Russian Ballet across the street to stage all the tow trucks that will be towing out of Colonial Photo and Hobby and the rest of the businesses and private residences where cars will be stacking up as residents stop to eat and drink here for hours and hours.
Seems like a bad idea given current traffic and congestion and the elementary school. Also so many Asian restaurants already in the Mills/50 atea.
