The Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission is actively recruiting for its ever-growing Python Patrol posse.
The Python Patrol (Website) is a network of individuals throughout the state (mostly in South Florida) who can identify Burmese pythons, report sightings, search, and safely capture and kill the invasive species.
Burmese pythons pose a massive threat to the Florida ecosystem, especially in the Florida Everglades. So much so that the state hosts a Florida Python Challenge to engage amateur hunters in an effort to remove as many of the invasives as possible, with a chance to win up to $10,000 in prizes.
Trainings are open and available to the public and no prior snake handling experience is required. The workshops are free and available via a virtual PowerPoint presentation every third Thursday of the month from 7-8 p.m. Registration is not required.
The next class is on August 22. Click HERE for more information.
