The Orange County Government has just launched a new program called “Ready Set Orange” through which it will incentivize and encourage the construction of more starter-homes, single-family homes, and Accessory Dwelling Units.

“The intent of this program is to provide greater attainable housing opportunities for residents by eliminating barriers in the process,” said Olan Hill, Assistant Manager of the County’s Planning Division. “Our current residential market is heavy on the single-family detached, and heavy on multi-family attached, with very little supply of everything in between.”

Ready Set Orange will provide eight pre-designed floorplan models that will have step-by-step instructions on how to apply for and obtain final construction permits, based on the model. Hopefully cutting costs and time associated with the county’s permitting process.

An Accessory Dwelling Unit is a smaller, independent residential unit that is located on the same lot as a detached single-family home. Orange County has allowed for the construction of ADUs since 2019, as they often provide space for family members or extra income through renting to third-party tenants.
