WUCF’s Krystel Knowles, the senior producer of “NewsNight,” recently received not one, but two Sunshine State Awards from the Society of Professional Journalists at an August 17 ceremony in Hollywood, Florida.

The awards recognized her work on  Felon Voters Facing Voting Uncertainty in the Government, Politics and Election Reporting category and focused on the uncertainties faced by former felons looking to vote in Florida elections; and Mosquito-Borne Illnesses in the Health Reporting category which included NewsNight’s coverage of an outbreak of mosquito-borne illnesses and the story following the work of mosquito control officers in two Central Florida counties.

“NewsNight’s high-quality journalism has been recognized with several awards and two Emmy nominations since beginning in 2019,” said Steve Mort, NewsNight executive producer. “Krystel’s achievement at the SBJs is a testament to WUCF’s continuing commitment to in-depth reporting.”

NewsNight airs 8:30 p.m. Fridays on WUCF TV, on WUCF FM 89.9 Sundays at 6 a.m. and can be streamed at pbs.org.
