Mennello Museum of American Art (Website) will host an opening reception for a retrospective of Abstract Tonalist, Sally Michel on Friday, September 20.
Sally Michel: Abstracting Tonalism is the first museum retrospective in over 20 years of Michel’s Modernist landscapes and figures, spanning from the 1930s to the 1990s. Michel is known for her use of simplified color and line with soft pastels.
The opening reception starts at 6:30 p.m. but if you’re a museum member you can go early at 5:30 p.m. and skip the crowds. A panel discussion featuring Katherine Page, curator for the museum, as well as art critic Eleanor Heartney, and Sally Michel’s grandson and artist Sean Cavenaugh, is scheduled for 1 p.m. Saturday, September 21.
