9/17 EDIT: Kappy’s owner Rachel Milsom shared with Bungalower that they were not asked to leave the restaurant by the 14th, as originally stated in this article. But that that was a date they chose. It was not dictated by Bolen Properties.
“Thank you all for your support. We truly could not have saved Kappy’s without the love of our community.”
– ADAM MILSOM
Just days after it was forced to close by the people who owned their property, Kappy’s Subs (Instagram | Website) in Maitland has reached a new lease deal and will reopen very soon.
The sub shop, which has operated out of an iconic Valentine Diner trailer at 501 N. Orlando Avenue [GMap] since 1972, had the property purchased from under them by an entity called Bolen Properties, which owns the property next door. Last week, Kappy’s owner Adam Milsom, and family shared with Bungalower that Bolen Properties had been unable/unwilling to extend the restaurant’s lease and had told them they would need to leave by Saturday, September 14.
The news of their pending closure was greeted with lines of customers sometimes wrapping the block, coming to enjoy one (or two) last subs, and wishing the Milsoms well on their next endeavor. That outpouring of support must have worked wonders with Bolen Properties as well because they have reached an agreement with the Milsoms to keep Kappy’s Subs where it belongs with a fresh new lease. However, the length of the lease has not been shared publicly at this time.
Kappy’s Subs is scheduled to reopen for business on Monday, September 23.
