Lake Highland Prep has filed plans with the City of Orlando for a major review of its landscape and streetscape plans associated with a previously approved two-story gymnasium in its athletic fields located just north of its Park Lake Highland campus.
The new 48,000 SF Multisport Athletic Facility and Field Renovation at the Lake Highland Athletic Complex will house a gymnasium, a wrestling center, an archery range, and support facilities like a sports medicine center, locker rooms, a film room, golf simulator, coaches office, and a hospitality suite.
We told you HERE in July 2020 that the City of Orlando would be reworking how a number of streets flowed through Ivanhoe Village in relation to this project and recent development in the area like Mills Park, The Yard at Ivanhoe, Lake House, and the under-construction The Yard – Crossman development has increased traffic and pressure on the local infrastructure.
Those original realignment plans seem to have been shifted a bit recently, according to this design that features a cut-through drop-off area that connects Alden to Lake Highland Avenue and adds an outlet to the west as well, closer to the train tracks, rerouting it from ending next to Swanson’s Ivanhoe Row.
According to the plans, the Orlando Urban Trail will be also be re-routed at the southern entrance to flow into the current Lake Highland Drive roadway, which will be eventually closed to traffic.
Brookhaven Drive to the north is part of the upcoming Virginia Drive Special Plan that will see a new sidewalk installed along the northern edge of the property, extending east and west.
Recently, the school came under fire from Ivanhoe Village businesses and residents for closing its parking lot to public use and events.
