All city departments in Winter Park and Orlando are preparing for the impact of Tropical Storm Helene, ahead of its landfall sometime later this week.
Winter Park residents can pick up sandbags on Tuesday, September 24 from 2-6 p.m., and 7 a.m.-6 p.m. Wednesday, September 25 at the Rollins Softball Field parking lot at 452 Harper Street [GMap] next to the library. You must have proof of residency and a limit of eight bags per resident.
Orlando residents have a few more options for pickup, including:
- Barnett Park – 9 a.m.-7 p.m. September 24 and 25.
- Bithlo Community Park – 9 a.m.-7 p.m. September 24 and 25.
- Downey Park – 9 a.m.-7 p.m. September 24 and 25.
- Meadow Woods Recreation Center – 9 a.m.-7 p.m. September 24 and 25.
United Against Poverty Orlando had sandbags and sand delivered to their SODO facility late last week in an effort to help businesses and residents in the area that have been negatively affected by recent flooding. They offer free community sandbagging on a first come, first served basis, with sandbagging available from 11 a.m.-3 p.m. every day until supplies are gone. They have sand, sandbags, and shovels ready to be used.
