“A single sunbeam is enough to drive away many shadows.”
– ST FRANCIS OF ASSISI
Broadway United Methodist Church of Orlando will host a special event on Sunday, October 6, in honor of St. Francis of Assisi.
St. Francis was an Italian mystic, poet, and Catholic friar who founded the Franciscan religious order. He was known for caring for the poor and underprivileged, and his care of the natural world and animals. He is said to have preached to birds and other animals and to have tamed a wolf, because he believed everything on this earth was created by God, and deserved love and respect.
The Feast of St. Francis is generally hosted on October 4, and became popular for people to bring their pets and animals to church to be blessed with divine protection and well-being.
At this event, the blessings will commence at 1 p.m. in the church’s community garden. All pets are welcome, whether they be furry, feathered, scaly, or whatever.
