10/17 UPDATE: The Lake Alert for all City of Orlando lakes has been lifted.
The city of Orlando has issued a Lake Advisory for all municipal lakes until further notice.
Residents should refrain from any and all contact with local waterbodies, following the passing of Hurricane Milton. The notice also applies to any standing water on local roadways.
People should avoid floodwaters after a hurricane because they can be contaminated with sewage, chemicals, and harmful bacteria, and pose serious health risks. Additionally, the water may hide dangerous debris, sharp objects, or downed power lines, increasing the risk of injury or electrocution.
Floodwaters can also harbor insects and wildlife like snakes, increasing the risk of bites or stings.
