On the tail feathers of the giant pigeons in downtown Orlando, Creative City Project is poised to launch the next in its ongoing series of DTOLive art installations, with the help of downtown creatives, Red Tape Orlando (Website).
The new piece is called Urban Ember and is essentially an outdoor seating sculpture comprised of birchwood, geometric shapes, and plexiglass/LED features that will cast an inviting glow at night.
DTOLive, launched in April 2024 to bring hundreds of free arts and culture experiences to downtown Orlando. The initiative is led by the City of Orlando’s Downtown Development Board in partnership with United Arts of Central Florida, Creative City Project, and the Downtown Arts District. These entities are working together in an attempt to infuse the streets with live music, interactive art, and a street festival atmosphere (which is funny because the City has been a bit anti-street festival in recent years).
A public unveiling of the sculpture is scheduled for 1:30 p.m. Thursday, October 17 at 30 S. Orange Avenue [GMap].
As the third installation in Creative City Project’s ongoing collaboration with DTOLive, Urban Ember follows the success of No Place Like Home, unveiled in June 2024, and Big City Birds, which debuted in August 2024.
