People is an art show opening this Friday at 6 p.m. at Stardust Video and Coffee (Website) that will feature the art of two very creative people; Hayley Boulicault (Instagram), and Justin Luper (Instagram)
As a former curator, I have previously displayed Justin’s art. Justin’s work is diverse. He paints, makes furniture, music, and sculpts. Hayley has always drawn, but her efforts to put her art out where we can see it have been more recent. I’ve been following Hayley’s paintings. I love how they combine playfulness and darkness. Many look like the faces are melting, in a Francis Bacon way, with a twist of Wes Anderson.
In this show, Justin will show wooden busts. They have a Gray’s Anatomy and playschool feel. Both of them show work that feels like there is a backstory. Hayley sent me this about her work.
“I am very influenced by Helen Frankenthaler and her paint-pouring process. In allowing an organic process to create these portraits, I feel I can play around and imagine how these people might think or feel. How they might like to be perceived. I’m also influenced by vintage costume wear and fashion in general; flowy and somewhat absurd shapes and fabrics that take my breath away.”
– HAYLEY BOULICAULT
Their art expresses their own unique voices but is very compatible when presented side-by-side. Stardust has always been an underrated gallery venue. They take some chances and don’t focus on the bottom line.
The show opens on Friday, December 6, at 6 p.m. at Stardust Video and Coffee in Audubon Park, which is located at 1842 Winter Park Road [GMap].
