State Representative Anna Eskamani has filed paperwork to run for Mayor of Orlando in 2027.
Due to term limits, the current State Rep is unable to seek re-election to the Florida House in 2026, so has decided to throw her hat into municipal politics. The move isn’t a surprise for those who have been following Eskamani for the past few years, as she was rumored to have almost run in the most recent election, but chose not to to avoid dividing her electoral base in a race against Mayor Dyer.
“In 2027, Orlando faces a pivotal moment. And with so much uncertainty at the national level, we need a people-centered leader with the courage to challenge the status quo and the vision to deliver bold, creative solutions to address our community’s everyday challenges — from homelessness and public safety to small business support and affordability,” Eskamani shared in a statement. “These issues are complex, but through grit, grace, and a relentless work ethic, I know I am the leader Orlando needs to move us forward into the future.”
During her time in the Florida House, Eskamani, 34, has worked on campaigns to end a sales tax on diapers and adult incontinence diapers and tried to protect the rights of workers and abortion access.
Eskamani is graduate of UCF and holds a Ph.D. in public administration.
The news of Eskamani’s run for mayor comes as rumors have started to fly that sitting mayor John Dyer may be considering one more run at office, in an attempt to finish his overhaul of downtown Orlando – though an official announcement is yet to be made.
