According to City of Orlando officials, the second of the two scheduled holiday drone shows in Downtown Orlando was canceled this evening due to “technical difficulties.”
City of Orlando social media sites shared the following message right around the time the second show was scheduled to begin around 8 p.m.
The shows, described by City Hall as a “dazzling display of synchronized drones flying in formation to create beautiful holiday-themed designs in the night sky,” is part of a newish way to celebrate the season without fireworks and drew thousands of people to downtown to enjoy the show.
However, viewers of the opening 15-minute drone show at 6:30 p.m. have been sharing videos on their own social media accounts that show errant drones dropping out of the sky and crashing in random locations around Lake Eola Park and there were even reports of a drone striking a young child in the face. The Orlando Fire Department confirmed that at least one individual was transported to an area hospital for a minor injury.

A City spokesperson shared the following statement.
“We are in contact with the vendor to determine what occurred with the operation. FAA is handling the investigation.”
