Duke Energy customers could see an increase in their monthly bills starting March 2025 if state regulators approve their new rates plan.

The utility company filed a plan with the Florida Public Service Commission to recover $1.1 billion in costs it faced from hurricanes Debby, Helene, and Milton. To do so, they say they’d like to temporarily increase fees to $21 per 1,000 kilowatt-hours on their monthly bills, with an end date targeted for February 2026.

Duke Energy shares that it had to bring in 3,000 extra workers for Debby, 8,600 workers for Helene, and 16,000 workers for Milton to reconnect more than 2 million customers over the course of the three hurricanes.

A hearing for the request has not been scheduled yet.
