Austin’s Coffee (Instagram) was the victim of a break-and-enter over the weekend.
“So you threw a brick in to steal beer? We try so hard to be open for the community, to have a home, and often shake our heads in disbelief. We do not get rich off this business. We barely make ends meet if you even call it that. We are here for you, the community, and these are the moments we feel betrayed by those around us. If you know who did this please DM us so we can get reimbursed for the costly door repair.”
According to a post on social media, the coffee shop/performance venue/casual hang was broken into early Wednesday morning by shattering the front glass door with a brick. And while they only made off with some beer, they caused thousands of dollars of damage to the building at a time when they were under the lens of their new landlord, the City of Winter Park.
City of Winter Park Commissioners voted unanimously in November to pay $4 million for a one-acre property on the corner of Denning Drive and Fairbanks Avenue to one day demolish the site and expand the adjacent Martin Luther King Jr. Park and add a traffic lane to Fairbanks to help ease traffic at the intersection.
All leases on the property will be kept as-is, but the option to extend them isn’t likely. City Commissioners are still sitting on the next steps, which could include possibly extending the lease for at least Austin’s Coffee, which is set to run out this year.
Austins’ has shared its Cash App in case anyone would like to make a donation to replacing the front door.
